The aim of our study is to investigate the effect induced by alternated mechanical loading on Notch-1 in mandibular condylar cartilage (MCC) of growing rabbits. A total of 64 ten-day-old rabbits were randomly divided into two groups according to dietary hardness: normal diet group (pellet) and soft diet group (powder). In each group, the rabbits were further divided into four subgroups by feeding time: two weeks, four weeks, six weeks, and eight weeks. Animals would be injected 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine (BrdU) every day for one week before sacrificing. Histomorphometric analysis of MCC thickness was performed through haematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining. Immunochemical analysis was done to test BrdU and Notch-1. Bone demonstrates good healing capacity, with a variety of strategies being utilized to enhance this healing. One potential strategy that has been suggested is the use of stem cells to accelerate healing. The following databases were searched: MEDLINE, CENTRAL, EMBASE, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, WHO-ICTRP, ClinicalTrials.gov, as well as reference checking of included studies. The inclusion criteria for the study were: population (any adults who have sustained a fracture, not including those with pre-existing bone defects); intervention (use of stem cells from any source in the fracture site by any mechanism); and control (fracture healing without the use of stem cells). Due to its crystal structure and chemistry, hydroxyapatite (HA) and related apatites have a remarkable ability to bind molecules. This review article describes the accretion of trace elements in bone mineral giving a historical perspective. Implanted HA particles of synthetic origin have proved to be an efficient recruiting moiety for systemically circulating drugs which can locally biomodulate the material and lead to a therapeutic effect. The Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex and important joint for daily activities, and the alloplastic implant is recommended as the best solution, after repeated surgeries, failed autogenous grafts, highly inflammatory metabolic arthritis, fibrous or bony ankyloses. Some complications in total TMJ replacement are associated with implant design, screw fixation failure, implant displacement, fibrous tissue formation, (Speculand, et al. 2000). Some numeric studies evaluate the number of screws needed to guarantee the good fixation and suggest a minimum of three (Ramos et al. 2015), but is a controversy conclusion. The Biomet Microfixation TMJ stock prosthesis, Jacksonville, FL, USA is one of the three or four in the market. Clinical studies published by this device between 2005 and 2015 indicate a success rate of around 84 to 91% with improvements in mouth opening, a decrease in pain score and improved quality of life. The present study analyses experimentally the load transfer of this device. The intact, clean cadaveric ramus was instrumented with four rosettes model (KFG-1-120-D17-11 L3M2S, by Kywoa Electronic Instruments Co™, Japan), one in lateral region, two in lateral region and one in lingual face. The condyle was loaded with the temporal reaction; the load was applied constant velocity of 1mm/min in three continuum phases and with three stops at 100N, 200N and 300N. Next, the Biomet microfixation implant was fixed to the same cadaveric mandibular ramus after resection. The implant was 50mm in length. and therapeutic factors which influence the oncological outcome
of parosteal osteosarcoma. A total of 80 patients with a primary parosteal osteosarcoma
were included in this retrospective study. There were 51 females
and 29 males with a mean age of 29.9 years (11 to 78). The mean follow-up was 11.2 years (1 to 40). Overall survival
was 91.8% at five years and 87.8% at ten years. Local recurrence
occurred in 14 (17.5%) patients and was associated with intralesional
surgery and a large volume of tumour. On histological examination,
80% of the local recurrences were dedifferentiated high-grade tumours.
A total of 12 (14.8%) patients developed pulmonary metastases, of
whom half had either a dedifferentiated tumour or a local recurrence.
Female gender and young age were good prognostic factors. Local
recurrence was a poor prognostic factor for survival. Medullary
involvement or the use of chemotherapy had no impact on survival. The main goal in treating a parosteal osteosarcoma must be to
achieve a wide surgical margin, as inadequate margins are associated
with local recurrence. Local recurrence has a significant negative
effect on survival, as 80% of the local recurrences are high-grade
dedifferentiated tumours, and half of these patients develop metastases. The role of chemotherapy in the treatment of parosteal osteosarcoma
is not as obvious as it is in the treatment of conventional osteosarcoma.

Introduction:. Skeletal involvement in non-Hodgkin lymphoma in HIV/AIDS is rarely reported. The bone lesions can have a spectrum of radiological features. Aims:. The aim of the study was to review the radiological features of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) involving the bone in HIV positive patients. Methodology:. All cases of NHL involving bone in HIV positive patients diagnosed histopathologically were recorded retrospectively between September 2002 and December 2013. Clinical manifestations, radiological features and haematological investigations were analysed from the patients' records. Histopathological subtypes were analysed from slides. Results:. 105 Cases of lymphoma involving bone were recorded. Of these, 46 patients met the criteria of being HIV positive and diagnosed with NHL involving bone. The male to female ratio was equal, the age ranged from 14 to 51 years (average 35 years), the absolute CD 4 count ranged from 17 to 307 (average 100). In Neer type II (Robinson type 3B) fractures
of the distal clavicle the medial fragment is detached from the coracoclavicular
ligaments and displaced upwards, whereas the lateral fragment, which
is usually small, maintains its position. Several fixation techniques
have been suggested to treat this fracture. The aim of this study
was to assess the outcome of patients with type II distal clavicle
fractures treated with coracoclavicular suture fixation using three
loops of Ethibond. This prospective study included 14 patients with
Neer type II fractures treated with open reduction and coracoclavicular
fixation. Ethibond sutures were passed under the coracoid and around
the clavicle (UCAC loop) without making any drill holes in the proximal
or distal fragments. There were 11 men and three women with a mean
age of 34.57 years (29 to 41). Patients were followed for a mean
of 24.64 months (14 to 31) and evaluated radiologically and clinically
using the Constant score. Fracture union was obtained in 13 patients at
a mean of 18.23 weeks (13 to 23) and the mean Constant score was
96.07 (91 to 100). One patient developed an asymptomatic fibrous
nonunion at one year. This study suggests that open reduction and
internal fixation of unstable distal clavicle fractures using UCAC
loops can provide rigid fixation and lead to bony union. This technique avoids
using metal hardware, preserves the acromioclavicular joint and

The outcomes of 261 nerve injuries in 100 patients
were graded good in 173 cases (66%), fair in 70 (26.8%) and poor in
18 (6.9%) at the final review (median 28.4 months (1.3 to 64.2)).
The initial grades for the 42 sutures and graft were 11 good, 14
fair and 17 poor. After subsequent revision repairs in seven, neurolyses
in 11 and free vascularised fasciocutaneous flaps in 11, the final
grades were 15 good, 18 fair and nine poor. Pain was relieved in
30 of 36 patients by nerve repair, revision of repair or neurolysis,
and flaps when indicated. The difference in outcome between penetrating
missile wounds and those caused by explosions was not statistically
significant; in the latter group the onset of recovery from focal
conduction block was delayed (mean 4.7 months (2.5 to 10.2)
Osteoradionecrosis is a rare but recognised complication of radiotherapy. Cases have been described in the cervical spine following treatment for head and neck malignancies up to 25 years after administration of radiotherapy. We present a rare case of osteoradionecrosis affecting the L5 and S1 vertebral bodies in a 58-year-old woman who presented with low back pain 25 years after undergoing a hysterectomy with adjuvant radiotherapy for cancer of the cervix.
