However, a minority of patients have persistent pain and stiffness after surgery and may benefit from open arthrolysis, subacromial decompression, and removal of metalwork (ADROM). The long-term results of ADROM remain unknown; we aimed to assess outcomes of patients undergoing this procedure for stiffness following ORPF, and assess predictors of poor outcome. ADROM was offered to symptomatic patients with a healed fracture at six months postoperatively. The modified Radiological Union Scale for Tibia (mRUST) fractures score was developed in order to assess progress to union and define a numerical assessment of fracture healing of metadiaphyseal fractures. This score has been shown to be valuable in predicting radiological union; however, there is no information on the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of this index for various cut-off scores. The aim of this study is to evaluate sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and cut-off points of the mRUST score for the diagnosis of metadiaphyseal fractures healing. A cohort of 146 distal femur fractures were retrospectively identified at our institution. After excluding AO/OTA type B fractures, nonunions, follow-up less than 12 weeks, and patients aged less than 16 years, 104 sets of radiographs were included for analysis. Anteroposterior and lateral femur radiographs at six weeks, 12 weeks, 24 weeks, and final follow-up were separately scored by three surgeons using the mRUST score. The sensitivity and specificity of mean mRUST score were calculated using clinical and further radiological findings as a gold standard for ultimate fracture healing. A receiver operating characteristic curve was also performed to determine the cut-off points at each time point.Aims

To clarify the effectiveness of the induced membrane technique (IMT) using beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) for reconstruction of segmental bone defects by evaluating clinical and radiological outcomes, and the effect of defect size and operated site on surgical outcomes. A review of the medical records was conducted of consecutive 35 lower limbs (30 males and five females; median age 46 years (interquartile range (IQR) 40 to 61)) treated with IMT using β-TCP between 2014 and 2018. Lower Extremity Functional Score (LEFS) was examined preoperatively and at final follow-up to clarify patient-centered outcomes. A systematic search was performed in CINAHL, The Cochrane Library, Embase, Ovid MEDLINE, and PubMed. We included articles from 1 January 1980 to 30 September 2019. Studies with a minimum sample size of five cases, where the IMT was performed primarily in adult patients (≥ 18 years old), in a long bone were included. Osteopetrosis (OP) is a rare hereditary disease that causes reduced bone resorption and increased bone density as a result of osteoclastic function defect. Our aim is to review the difficulties, mid-term follow-up results, and literature encountered during the treatment of OP. This is a retrospective and observational study containing data from nine patients with a mean age of 14.1 years (9 to 25; three female, six male) with OP who were treated in our hospital between April 2008 and October 2018 with 20 surgical procedures due to 17 different fractures. Dual plating of distal femoral fractures with medial and lateral implants has been performed to improve construct mechanics and alignment, in cases where isolated lateral plating would be insufficient. This may potentially compromise vascularity, paradoxically impairing healing. This study investigates effects of single versus dual plating on distal femoral vascularity. A total of eight cadaveric lower limb pairs were arbitrarily assigned to either 1) isolated lateral plating, or 2) lateral and medial plating of the distal femur, with four specimens per group. Contralateral limbs served as matched controls. Pre- and post-contrast MRI was performed to quantify signal intensity enhancement in the distal femur. Further evaluation of intraosseous vascularity was done with barium sulphate infusion with CT scan imaging. Introduction. Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma (D.C.) has a very poor prognosis. The efficacy of chemotherapy is still debated. Between July 2000 and December 2002, 263 consecutive patients across 5 surgical centers underwent to a revision surgery of a failed acetabular component in which TM acetabular components were used. There were 150 women and 113 men with a mean age of 69.5 years. The indication for acetabular revision was aseptic loosening in 186 cases (70.7%). Clinical evaluations were performed using the Harris hip score, the WOMAC and UCLA activity scale. Implant and screw position, polyethylene wear, radiolucent lines, gaps, and osteolysis were assessed. Preoperatively, acetabular bone deficiency was categorized using the classification of Paprosky et al. Statistical analysis was performed using nonparametric correlations. Standard life table was constructed, and the survival rate was calculated by means of Kaplan-Meier method. The overall mean follow-up was 73.6 months (range, 60–84 months), and no patient was lost to follow-up. The preoperative HHS rating improved from a mean of 43.6 ± 11.4 before revision, to a mean of 82.1 ± 10.7. None of the patients was re-revised for loosening. The cumulative prosthesis survival was 99.2% at 5 years. There was no correlation found between the various degrees of acetabular bony defect and the magnitude of clinical results (independent of pre-revision Paprosky grade). Background. There is growing evidence in literature that meniscal allograft transplantation performed with the right indications results in significant pain relief and functional improvement of the involved joint. Long-term data on clinical and radiological outcome are however scarce. Methods. We evaluated 89 transplants (53 lateral and 36 medial) in 87 patients. Mean time of follow-up was 15,5 ± 2,85 years (range 9,9–20,4), mean age at surgery was 35,2 years (range 22–50). Clinically, the patients were evaluated using a KOOS, SF-36, HSS, VAS, Tegner and Lysholm score. HSS scores were compared to pre-operative and mid-term follow-up data. Each patient received radiographs (AP, profile and Rosenberg view). Radiological outcome parameters were joint space width narrowing and Fairbank changes and were scored according to IKDC. Failures were defined as patients who were converted to an arthroplasty. Results. HSS-scores improved significantly from 119 ± 27pre-operatively to 160 ± 40 at long-term follow-up. Lysholm-score was 69 ± 22, which was defined as a fair result. Mean VAS-score was 3,4 ± 3, mean Tegner was 4 ± 2.
