Temperature is known to influence muscle physiology, with the velocity of shortening, relaxation and propagation all increasing with temperature. Scant data are available, however, regarding thermal influences on energy required to induce muscle damage. Gastrocnemius and soleus muscles were harvested from 36 male rat limbs and exposed to increasing impact energy in a mechanical test rig. Muscle temperature was varied in 5°C increments, from 17°C to 42°C (to encompass the Objectives

Objectives. Recently, the field of tissue engineering has made numerous advances towards achieving artificial tendon substitutes with excellent mechanical and histological properties, and has had some promising experimental results. The purpose of this systematic review is to assess the efficacy of tissue engineering in the treatment of tendon

Heterotopic ossification (HO) is perhaps the
single most significant obstacle to independence, functional mobility, and
return to duty for combat-injured veterans of Operation Enduring
Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Recent research into the cause(s)
of HO has been driven by a markedly higher prevalence seen in these
wounded warriors than encountered in previous wars or following
civilian trauma. To that end, research in both civilian and military
laboratories continues to shed light onto the complex mechanisms
behind HO formation, including systemic and wound specific factors,
cell lineage, and neurogenic inflammation. Of particular interest,

Acetabular retractors have been implicated in damage to the femoral
and obturator nerves during total hip replacement. The aim of this
study was to determine the anatomical relationship between retractor
placement and these nerves. A posterior approach to the hip was carried out in six fresh
cadaveric half pelves. Large Hohmann acetabular retractors were
placed anteriorly, over the acetabular lip, and inferiorly, and
their relationship to the femoral and obturator nerves was examined. Objectives
Methods
The aim of this experimental study on New Zealand’s white rabbits
was to investigate the transplantation of autogenous growth plate
cells in order to treat the injured growth plate. They were assessed
in terms of measurements of radiological tibial varus and histological
characteristics. An experimental model of plate growth medial partial resection
of the tibia in 14 New Zealand white rabbits was created. During
this surgical procedure the plate growth cells were collected and
cultured. While the second surgery was being performed, the autologous
cultured growth plate cells were grafted at the right tibia, whereas
the left tibia was used as a control group. Objectives
Methods
Symptoms of obstetric brachial plexus injury (OBPI) vary widely
over the course of time and from individual to individual and can
include various degrees of denervation, muscle weakness, contractures,
bone deformities and functional limitations. To date, no universally
accepted overall framework is available to assess the outcome of patients
with OBPI. The objective of this paper is to outline the proposed
process for the development of International Classification of Functioning,
Disability and Health (ICF) Core Sets for patients with an OBPI. The first step is to conduct four preparatory studies to identify
ICF categories important for OBPI: a) a systematic literature review
to identify outcome measures, b) a qualitative study using focus
groups, c) an expert survey and d) a cross-sectional, multicentre
study. A first version of ICF Core Sets will be defined at a consensus
conference, which will integrate the evidence from the preparatory
studies. In a second step, field-testing among patients will validate this
first version of Core Sets for OBPI.Background

Aims. cAMP response element binding protein (CREB1) is involved in the progression of osteoarthritis (OA). However, available findings about the role of CREB1 in OA are inconsistent. 666-15 is a potent and selective CREB1 inhibitor, but its role in OA is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the precise role of CREB1 in OA, and whether 666-15 exerts an anti-OA effect. Methods. CREB1 activity and expression of a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 4 (ADAMTS4) in cells and tissues were measured by immunoblotting and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining. The effect of 666-15 on chondrocyte viability and apoptosis was examined by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, JC-10, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labelling (TUNEL) staining. The effect of 666-15 on the microstructure of subchondral bone, and the synthesis and catabolism of cartilage, in anterior cruciate ligament transection mice were detected by micro-CT, safranin O and fast green (S/F), immunohistochemical staining, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results. CREB1 was hyperactive in osteoarthritic articular cartilage, interleukin (IL)-1β-treated cartilage explants, and IL-1β- or carbonyl cyanide 3-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP)-treated chondrocytes. 666-15 enhanced cell viability of OA-like chondrocytes and alleviated IL-1β- or CCCP-induced chondrocyte

Aims. Rotator cuff muscle atrophy and fatty infiltration affect the clinical outcomes of rotator cuff tear patients. However, there is no effective treatment for fatty infiltration at this time. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) helps to activate beige adipose tissue. The goal of this study was to test the role of HIIT in improving muscle quality in a rotator cuff tear model via the β3 adrenergic receptor (β3AR). Methods. Three-month-old C57BL/6 J mice underwent a unilateral rotator cuff
