Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) is a condition
for which the aetiology remains unknown. It affects subchondral bone
and secondarily its overlying cartilage and is mostly found in the
knee. It can occur in adults, but is generally identified when growth
remains, when it is referred to as juvenile OCD. As the condition
progresses, the affected subchondral bone separates from adjacent
healthy bone, and can lead to demarcation and separation of its associated
articular cartilage. Any symptoms which arise relate to the stage
of the disease. Early disease without separation of the lesion results
in pain. Separation of the lesion leads to mechanical symptoms and
swelling and, in advanced cases, the formation of loose bodies. Early identification of OCD is essential as untreated OCD can
lead to the premature degeneration of the joint, whereas appropriate
treatment can halt the disease process and lead to healing. Establishing
the stability of the lesion is a key part of providing the correct

The aim of this study was to explore current use of the Global Fragility Fracture Network (FFN) Minimum Common Dataset (MCD) within established national hip fracture registries, and to propose a revised MCD to enable international benchmarking for hip fracture care. We compared all ten established national hip fracture registries: England, Wales, and Northern Ireland; Scotland; Australia and New Zealand; Republic of Ireland; Germany; the Netherlands; Sweden; Norway; Denmark; and Spain. We tabulated all questions included in each registry, and cross-referenced them against the 32 questions of the MCD dataset. Having identified those questions consistently used in the majority of national audits, and which additional fields were used less commonly, we then used consensus methods to establish a revised MCD.Aims

This study describes cannulated hip screws survivorship analysis for patients aged ≥ 60 years with undisplaced intra-capsular fractures. This was a retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients aged ≥ 60 years who had cannulated screws fixation for Garden I and II fractures in a teaching hospital between March 2013 and March 2016. We have reviewed 54 patients who had undergone 61 total hip replacements using bulk femoral autografts to augment a congenitally dysplastic acetabulum. There were 52 women and two men with a mean age of 42.4 years (29 to 76) at the time of the index operation. A variety of different prostheses was used: 28 (45.9%) were cemented and 33 (54.1%) uncemented. The graft technique remained unchanged throughout the series. We evaluated the outcome of treatment of nonunion
of an intracapsular fracture of the femoral neck in young patients
using two cannulated screws and a vascularised bone graft. A total
of 32 patients (15 women and 17 men, with a mean age of 36.5 years;
20 to 50) with failed internal fixation of an intracapsular fracture
were included in the study. Following removal of the primary fixation,
two cannulated compression screws were inserted with a vascularised
iliac crest bone graft based on the ascending branch of the lateral
femoral circumflex artery. At a mean follow-up of 6.8 years (4 to 10), union was achieved
in 27 hips (84%). A total of five patients with a mean age of 40.5
years (35 to 50) had a persistent nonunion and underwent total hip
arthroplasty as also did two patients whose fracture united but
