1. Anterior segment injuries are shown to be more dangerous than lateral segment injuries, and an explanation for this is offered. 2. A common pattern in anterior segment injuries is described. 3. When this pattern is present the application of a plate to the sternum is a useful procedure. 4. Six cases are quoted in which the application of a plate to the sternum was effective. 5. A plate has been designed for the purpose.
