Bone & Joint Research (BJR) is owned and published by The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery, a registered charity (No. 209299). The Society was established with the object of: 'The advancement and improvement of education in orthopaedic surgery and allied branches of surgery and the diffusion of knowledge of new and improved methods of teaching and practising orthopaedic surgery in all its branches'.

As part of our charitable remit, The British Editorial Society of Bone & Joint Surgery supports several orthopaedic fellowships with financial donations. These include the ABC fellowship, the Mark Paterson Travelling Fellowship (an initiative with EFORT), and the Indian Orthopaedic Society fellowship in conjunction with the British Orthopaedic Trainee Association.

BJR launched in October 2011 and accepts papers across the whole spectrum of the musculoskeletal sciences, including but not limited to:

Basic science • bioengineering • regenerative medicine • stem cells • inflammation • immunology • infection • cancer genetics • genomics • metabolomics • proteomics • tissue research • ligaments • veterinary orthopaedics • clinical and translational laboratory studies that conform to CONSORT and STROBE guidelines • studies from the device and pharmaceutical industries.

BJR is a gold open access journal which means that all articles published will be available online, to anyone, anywhere in the world, completely free of charge.

How does it work?

Articles are submitted online via https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/bjr and reviewed with the same care and attention as we offer through The Bone & Joint Journal. Once accepted, authors are asked to pay a processing charge (with waivers for low-income countries), which can be paid by them, their funding body or institution. Articles are then prepared for publication and published online where they are freely available without requiring a subscription for access.

Publishing BJR as an open access journal brings our authors' work to the attention of the global musculoskeletal research community and beyond. It provides rapid publication and all articles published in BJR are referenced in BJJ, bringing them to the attention of top researchers in the field instantly.
